The pinkillo is one of South America’s best-known traditional flutes and is deeply rooted in the folk music of the Andean region. Unlike the quena, the pinkillo is played as a beak flute, making it particularly beginner-friendly. Its bright, lively sound lends an authentic Andean atmosphere to any piece of music. For centuries, the pinkillo has been a part of the lives of the Andean peoples. It is played at community festivals, agricultural ceremonies, and religious celebrations—especially during the early rainy season to celebrate livestock and the harvest.
