This Chinese-made kalimba is made from koa tonewood, hence the name koa kalimba. It is a typical kalimba with an excellent sound. The appearance and workmanship are of high quality with regard to the beautiful carving with Indian motif and the workmanship in general. The Kalimba is tuned in C major and has 17 reeds with the following tone arrangement (from left to right) D, B, G, E, C, A, F, D, C, E, G, B, D, F, A, C, E as the scope of delivery includes a cloth bag and a tuning hammer, the Kalimba can be easily retuned by yourself (instructions are included). The Kalimba is a wonderful, soft and very harmonious sounding instrument which can be played anywhere without any problems as it requires no electricity and is very handy. It is usually played with the thumbs, hence the colloquial name thumb piano. The sound is then produced by pressing the steel reeds and their vibration impulse, which is multiplied approximately tenfold by the resonating wooden body. Due to the different lengths of the steel reeds, impulses of varying intensity can be given and different tones are produced. For example, a short steel reed produces a sharper, louder tone and the longer ones a softer, quieter one. The harmonic arrangement of these provides the tuning of the instrument. All in all, a kalimba is a perfect introductory instrument that promises immediate playing pleasure.
