The balafon is a traditional African musical instrument with a long history. It consists of wooden bars mounted on a wooden frame and is often played with mallets. Unlike tuned variants, this balafon is untuned and offers free sound development. It features 11 keys arranged in an open sequence. Originally from Ghana, the balafon has gained worldwide recognition and has become a symbol of African music traditions. The instrument is often used at festive occasions, ceremonies, and cultural events. With dimensions of approximately 70 cm in length, 45 cm in width, and 40 cm in height, the balafon is traditionally made from Mansonia wood, which is known for its excellent resonance and durability. The hollowed gourds serve as resonators and amplify the characteristic sound of the instrument.
